About Ampelos Collective

Ampelos is movement first. The dance that truly resonates is the dance that is crafted intimately with every choice considered. We are weaving intricate lace. When we deeply care for what we create, mulling over the smallest details of quality and performance, the audience feels our devotion. Our work is a testament to the simplicity of what dance can be. The entire body expresses with the same acuity as the face. In essence, you will know what we mean, not by interpretation, but by feeling.

Phoebe McDowell was born in rural Virginia and began training in classical ballet at the age of three. At fifteen, she went to Idyllwild Arts to pursue contemporary dance, later attending CalArts to further her contemporary training. She Graduated in 2024 with a BFA in Dance.

Phoebe has mounted several choreographic works including April Showers (2021), Cart Piece (2022), The Sky is Falling (2023), The Sky is Falling - Extended (2024), and most recently I Dream of It (2025) at Pfefferberg Theater. Additionally, she has worked in dance film as a movement director, director, and editor. She has danced in works by Anton Lachky, Mike Tyus, Jérôme Bel, Donald Byrd, Chorang Yang, and many more.

Noah am Ende  is a 23-year-old dancer, choreographer, artist, and filmmaker based in Berlin, Germany. Noah grew up in East Lyme, Connecticut where he began his dance journey at the age of 6 in a local competitive dance studio. He graduated from CalArts in the spring of 2024 with a BFA in Dance and recently finished the DART DS program located in Potsdam, Germany.

From Connecticut, to California, to Zurich, London and to Berlin, Noah has studied and performed pieces by some renowned contemporary choreographers of the time including Jérôme Bel, Micaela Taylor, Nadav Zelner, Roy Assaf, Anton Lachky, Mike Tyus & Lucas Renzi, Didy Veldman, and Donald Byrd.

In Noah’s choreography, he tends to pull inspiration from religious historical paintings of the past. His catholic upbringing caused him to develop a distinct interest in depictions of sacred imagery. He draws upon the grandeur of these religious icons and the ways their bodies are painted to represent divinity and pain. These ideas can be seen throughout his various works including Imprints (2024): a duet exploring religious trauma and memory, Gnashing of teeth (2023): a group piece investigating archetypes and Catholicism and Opferlamm (2021): a solo about fear and theophobia.
